When I was in sixth grade, I hated my Language Arts teacher, too...
but for the complete opposite reason.

At the beginning of the year, he was convinced I was super good at RLA or something (I'm not), and as a result gave me a perfect score on everything I handed in. Once, I gave him an essay that I wrote that morning, and IT WAS TERRIBLE (trust me), but he still gave me 100%. Yeah, I didn't really do anything productive that year (although I do recall falling asleep in his class once).

Okay, maybe it sounds weird that I'm complaining he kept giving me A's, but since he just said "Oh, it's awesome" and didn't critique me, I didn't improve, and therefore I was completely unprepared for seventh grade, where my RLA teacher was a very strict grader and actually taught us stuff.
[Insert deep and philosophical statement here.]

I know how you guys feel, when I was in 6th grade, my math teacher didn't teach us anything (everything was a repeat for me!). We'd have to watch these dumb videos and never had homework! I never liked her, and for some reason I was put in a "regular" 6th grade math class when I asked to be put in advanced 7th grade math but they didn't think I was smart enough. The next year I was in Algebra 1 Honors for a 7th grader, and now I'm one out of maybe 4 or 5 freshmen at my high school in Pre-calculus Honors. Too bad my 6th grade math teacher quit the year after she taught me (I still think she was fired for being such a lousy teacher) cause then I could have showed her how good I really was at math. So I guess my situation is like yours, idodi, getting A's for absolutely no reason, we never got work in that class anyway.

Oh, and to continue on the earlier subject, I read Shakespeare in 7th grade, and 'Of Mice and Men' in 8th. This year I read 'The Alchemist', and 'Mythology' by Edith Hamilton so far, but there are many more books to come...

Don't delete this, Iaa. This is a science experiment. I, Zen, have a new favorite earth game, which can be seen on my Gamestar Mechanic profile. Its Spanish translation is the next four digits! All caps as usual. While you're there, make sure to check out the next clue!

Pre-Calc in the ninth grade? I took Algebra 1 in the seventh grade, and I'm in Algebra 2 at the moment...
Maybe your math track is different or something.

This year, we read "Of Mice And Men", "Romeo and Juliet", "Lord of the Flies", "To Kill A Mockingbird", and maybe a few more books? I'm not exactly sure; we're through two of them and reading another. I could probably figure out the rest of the books we're reading if I felt like digging up our course syllabus, but... Meh.

I've never had a teacher who was that bad to me... Sure, I've had the occasional odd teacher who doesn't like me, but they aren't mean to that extent. My English teacher last year hated me for the first half of the year and loved me for like the last quarter because she figured out I could write.

My math track isn't different, I just took the opportunity to be ahead. I took Algebra 1 in 7th, Geometry in 8th, Algebra 2 over the summer, and now I'm taking Pre-Calc in 9th. I would've been in Algebra 2 right now as well but I decided (actually my dad did) to take it online over the summer so that I can be ahead in school (math wise). About the book thing, yeah I have a lot that I'm going to read but I don't feel like digging up the syllabus either...

Ah... For us, we're not allowed to do that, even if you want to. Like they have these courses at UC Berkeley that, at most high schools, would be considered the equivalent of a course, but they don't count for us... Which really sucks, but if it was allowed, about 80% of the high school would do it.

Oh, I see. That sucks, I wonder why it's not allowed...?

I think that if it was allowed, some people would run out of courses to take xD My high school is really competitive, and people already do APs at home and stuff and just take the test at the end of the year. If they started giving credits, some people might finish all the requirements in like the eleventh grade...

Ugh... They just changed the regulations so you can't take AP tests for subjects not offered at our school (except Micro or Macro Economics) at school -_- We used to be able to, but now we can't... Stupid budget problems.

Yeah, I understand, budget cuts have a tendency to ruin things....I know from experience when I was in middle school...

Back to the original topic of this post, we just started reading Romeo and Juliet and I can kind of see why your teacher thought it was inappropriate. Still not worth a zero though, especially if she didn't put any parameters on the type of book you could use.

Hey, funny thing. In MY English class, we're starting to read Romeo and Juliet. We're studying Shakespeare as a whole. What's weirder is that we're studying the exact same thing (and I mean, the EXACT SAME THING, NO EXCEPTIONS) in my drama class. English is right after drama. Block schedule. So basically, 4 straight hours of Shakespeare. Fabulous.
In that moment, there was only silence.

Wow, nice! In my English class we're going to read Romeo and Juliet at the end of the year and then act it out. I just hope I'm not Juliet....actually I wouldn't mind depending on who's the Romeo...but still...

I feel sorry for you, Zen. My English teacher explains everything that Shakespeare means.
Like every. single. thing.
No matter how inappropriate it is.
