I've postponed writing in my journal in order to shift my focus to the Sanctum War completely. You can read more about that in my previous entry, made now, probably... Only two weeks ago? It feels like it's already been an eternity. A lot really has changed, I'll admit. I suppose I'm gonna have to make this entry extra long just to summarize what happened, but I'll likely be talking about this in detail for the rest of my life. Right now as I'm typing this I'm sitting in a makeshift laboratory created by my servant Caster. More on that later. The computer he designed for me connects to the cloud like all the rest; it's really quite incredible. But, alas, I'm getting ahead of myself.

In short, it was a resounding success.

During the Sanctum War I was chosen as a Club. Even before I knew for sure I'd be a master, I was already on the road looking for a feasible hidden base of operations. It was where where I met my first ally, Henri. As the hours rolled by we seemed to meet more like-minded people as we slowly formed our own little faction. Then, the command seals rolled in and the action really began.

I ended up summoning a Caster of Clubs, Roger Bacon. Trust me, he's not anything like I'd imagined. Apparently he was summoned in the state he was in when he died in the previous Sanctum War he was in, which was actually the first Divided War- the one in 1875, I mean. Or, was it 1885... Regardless I'd never heard of such a thing. I learned a lot about servants in that time- they actually retain their memories from previous wars. Which begs the question... where do servants REALLY go when they're killed in battle? People always say Sanctum, but... what part? The part where all the mana comes from?

Anyway, the war was a hell of an experience. We were beaten, bruised and tossed about through every possible disadvantage. The three major Magus families, Oshiro, Conzette and Krauss, were all stacked against us. Furthermore, the so-called "Ace of the Spades" Kirin Oshiro was actually the son of Isa Oshiro, the man who killed Henri's father. I'm not going to go into the details of the war itself right now, but by the end things got really unorthodox. I made an enemy- a major one, and I went through the hardest part of my life.

Picture someone on your side who can garauntee your victory- a perfect weapon and a cunning tactician. Now, picture that he goes against everything you stand for. That was Nicholas Hemingway. He was the very same Nicholas Hemingway that lately has been suspected of being connected to all of those disappearances. About two-thirds into the war we finally were through with him. He ended up forming his own faction, one he dubbed the "Hearts", and was our final obstacle before we got the key. Thank god we beat him, too- if we'd lost I'm afraid of what a man like that can do with unlimited power. As they say, absolute power corrupts absolutely- so what does it do to those already corrupt? Does it unleash them upon the world?

We don't need to know the answer, now. I've destroyed my key. All of my allies have destroyed theirs as well. I've destroyed a tradition that's been held for nearly a thousand years... and I think it's for the best. I still have my servant, though soon he won't be able to use any magecrafts or noble phantasms. Once the mana residue's gone and the contract fades, he'll be a normal person. It doesn't matter to me, I'll still supply him with mana. He's been a good friend. And of course, you can't imagine how useful it is to be best friends with Roger Bacon himself.

As for Madeline...?

He leaned back in his chair, staring at the computer screen. He thought for a long time, about what he'd continue with. It was midnight, now, and his eyes were growing weary.

She's in a better place, now. She's in a place where no one else can hurt her, or try to steal her technology.

I've abandoned the Madeline project- for now, at least. Until I can think of a better way, I'm going to give her a good, long rest. I've still got a big fight ahead of me, though. I'm scheduled to meet with the Mage's Association in London on Friday. I guess I'm starting a family of my own someday- picture it now. The humble house of Lazarus. Funny thought, huh? That's in the future, though. Now as a registered mage, it'd be wise for me to employ a mage's assistant. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. I know a guy. He's someone you can count on. We had a good friend... Now we've got to make sure we serve her memory well.

My assistant knows a lot more about magecraft than I do, actually. It may be an unorthodox dynamic, but everything for us up to this point has been pretty unorthodox. After all, the Sanctum Wars are over.

Anything can happen.
In that moment, there was only silence.
