Hera

Hera smiled at the people around her. All were talking and enjoying their warm beverages. The young woman tried to partake in the cheery discussions, but something kept bothering her. Eventually, she stood to exit the room.

“Hey, Hera, where are you going?” Anne asked now back to her usual happy self.

“I’m…not feeling too well. I think I’m gonna go lay down for a bit.”

“Oh…Okay. Hope you feel better soon!”

Hera allowed herself to smile slightly, “Thanks, Anne.”

Hera slowly climbed the stairs to the second floor. She entered her room with a sigh before shuffling towards the window. …Was it really worth it? Hera stopped too stare at the white snow which covered the ground. Her eyes allowed a single tear to fall. We won. We won the war. We destroyed the key, but why does it feel like we lost …like I lost? For a moment I had the power to make all my wishes come true…Why did I throw that away?

The door to the temporary Club base opened slightly, allowing a slim figure to slip out into the snow. The female trudged towards a hill on which stood a tall pillar made of pure mana, halting at the base of the aforementioned monument. If I threw away my shot at happiness, at least now you that have died for this cause may rest easy. Hera knelt before the monument dedicated to all who had died in the Sanctum Wars and placed the noble phantasm that had previously wounded her shoulder on the ground before it. My gift to you, the weapon I used to destroy my piece of the key. As soon as she had let go of the hilt, the weapon began to glow a slight red before slowly turning to ashes and being whisked away by the bitter winter wind.

After she had paid her respects to those that had died, Hera went to visit the resting place of a very special fallen master. She stood before a grave covered in beautiful flowers of every kind. Riza… if only I could talk to you. Perhaps then I would know what to do… Hera sat before the grave of the dead girl lost in thought. You were so close to him, and he obviously loved you. I just wish I had known you outside the war…it’s too late now, though. But perhaps there is something I can do to honor you…

“Riza,” Hera spoke suddenly breaking the quiet atmosphere surrounding the grave, “I’ll take care of him. I promise.”

((pls ignore crappy midnight writing towards the end))
My color is lavender. If you see anything on your post that is lavender, it was probably written by me.

Jack Blair

--2 years later--

"Shit!" The mirror tore off the side of the car, Damn pole. Jack made a fast right turn and caught some air as he sped down the hill. He kept a hand on the wheel as he dug in the glove compartment for his pistol. Got it! He swerved left into a parking lot and stopped his car. He flung open the door and jumped the small guard fence and ran into the building. It appeared to be some sort of concert venue. Jack held tightly to his gun and stood behind the desk, pistol pointed at the door.

He breathed heavily, wiping his hair from his face.

The ground shook and the air roared. A fireball had charred the walls and left a huge hole in the wooden doors. A tall red-headed man flanked by some rough looking men walked in.

"Drop the gun. Your traditional weapons won't work here." One of the men said.

"Heh." Jack smirked as he put his hand below the desk and summoned a white rose.

Another one of the men spoke up, "We don't want to hurt you, but we have to give you the option. You've seen too much already."

"What, cause I saw your fire tricks back there?" Jack said, still holding the gun, "Don't want me to tell anyone?"

The man flinched, the tall red-head stared at Jack.

"Exactly." He said after a pause, "Now what you're going to do is come with us, or we'll shut you up forever."

"Doesn't sound like much of a choice." He shot the man in the leg twice, and watched him buckle over.

"Do it." The other man told the red-head.

The boy conjured a fireball in his hand and shot a cone of flame at Jack, lighting up the entire room in an unbearable heat. He stopped the jet. Nothing but ashes remained of the corner of the room.

"Our job here is done." They helped the other one get to his feet and tore off his pant leg to bandage the wounds.

"We have to be more careful. If we didn't catch up to him he could have told the government about us, they'd drag Hart in to some lab to tear him open."

Hart nodded, closing the spark in his hand.

They heard a small noise behind them.

Hart poked the man and motioned to the source of the noise. But it was too late, the butt of a pistol collided with the man's jaw as he went to turn around. Hart made a light in his hand and saw a grotesque sight.

Jack stood over him, his burned-black skin slowly repairing itself. He held the gun at Hart's face, "Don't assume you're out here alone kid." He walked out of the building and out of sight, leaving the rose on the ground.

Rogue mages? With normal human entourages, huh. Sounds interesting. He thought to himself as he climbed back into his car. He grabbed a small flask and took a sip out of it, then raised it in front of him, "This one's to you, old friend". He was up to his old tricks again.

-Sunday

I've postponed writing in my journal in order to shift my focus to the Sanctum War completely. You can read more about that in my previous entry, made now, probably... Only two weeks ago? It feels like it's already been an eternity. A lot really has changed, I'll admit. I suppose I'm gonna have to make this entry extra long just to summarize what happened, but I'll likely be talking about this in detail for the rest of my life. Right now as I'm typing this I'm sitting in a makeshift laboratory created by my servant Caster. More on that later. The computer he designed for me connects to the cloud like all the rest; it's really quite incredible. But, alas, I'm getting ahead of myself.

In short, it was a resounding success.

During the Sanctum War I was chosen as a Club. Even before I knew for sure I'd be a master, I was already on the road looking for a feasible hidden base of operations. It was where where I met my first ally, Henri. As the hours rolled by we seemed to meet more like-minded people as we slowly formed our own little faction. Then, the command seals rolled in and the action really began.

I ended up summoning a Caster of Clubs, Roger Bacon. Trust me, he's not anything like I'd imagined. Apparently he was summoned in the state he was in when he died in the previous Sanctum War he was in, which was actually the first Divided War- the one in 1875, I mean. Or, was it 1885... Regardless I'd never heard of such a thing. I learned a lot about servants in that time- they actually retain their memories from previous wars. Which begs the question... where do servants REALLY go when they're killed in battle? People always say Sanctum, but... what part? The part where all the mana comes from?

Anyway, the war was a hell of an experience. We were beaten, bruised and tossed about through every possible disadvantage. The three major Magus families, Oshiro, Conzette and Krauss, were all stacked against us. Furthermore, the so-called "Ace of the Spades" Kirin Oshiro was actually the son of Isa Oshiro, the man who killed Henri's father. I'm not going to go into the details of the war itself right now, but by the end things got really unorthodox. I made an enemy- a major one, and I went through the hardest part of my life.

Picture someone on your side who can garauntee your victory- a perfect weapon and a cunning tactician. Now, picture that he goes against everything you stand for. That was Nicholas Hemingway. He was the very same Nicholas Hemingway that lately has been suspected of being connected to all of those disappearances. About two-thirds into the war we finally were through with him. He ended up forming his own faction, one he dubbed the "Hearts", and was our final obstacle before we got the key. Thank god we beat him, too- if we'd lost I'm afraid of what a man like that can do with unlimited power. As they say, absolute power corrupts absolutely- so what does it do to those already corrupt? Does it unleash them upon the world?

We don't need to know the answer, now. I've destroyed my key. All of my allies have destroyed theirs as well. I've destroyed a tradition that's been held for nearly a thousand years... and I think it's for the best. I still have my servant, though soon he won't be able to use any magecrafts or noble phantasms. Once the mana residue's gone and the contract fades, he'll be a normal person. It doesn't matter to me, I'll still supply him with mana. He's been a good friend. And of course, you can't imagine how useful it is to be best friends with Roger Bacon himself.

As for Madeline...?

He leaned back in his chair, staring at the computer screen. He thought for a long time, about what he'd continue with. It was midnight, now, and his eyes were growing weary.

She's in a better place, now. She's in a place where no one else can hurt her, or try to steal her technology.

I've abandoned the Madeline project- for now, at least. Until I can think of a better way, I'm going to give her a good, long rest. I've still got a big fight ahead of me, though. I'm scheduled to meet with the Mage's Association in London on Friday. I guess I'm starting a family of my own someday- picture it now. The humble house of Lazarus. Funny thought, huh? That's in the future, though. Now as a registered mage, it'd be wise for me to employ a mage's assistant. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. I know a guy. He's someone you can count on. We had a good friend... Now we've got to make sure we serve her memory well.

My assistant knows a lot more about magecraft than I do, actually. It may be an unorthodox dynamic, but everything for us up to this point has been pretty unorthodox. After all, the Sanctum Wars are over.

Anything can happen.
In that moment, there was only silence.
