REVIEW #4: BIOFORM

Bioform is a rare kind of game. Rarely in the game alley do you ever see a game that is so fun, yet so disappointing at the same time. Bioform is an example. It features exceptionally great gameplay awkwardly coupled with an unpolished story and lackluster graphics.

The first few levels are... slow, to say the least. The hero goes to a carnival. Now, that's fine and all, but it has very little to do with the plot, and they weren't exactly fun. Iaashadow could EASILY have removed them and just started with the invasion.  I won't go into further levels specifically to avoid spoilers. Besides- the most important parts relate to the game as a whole.

VISUALS
The Visuals of Bioform are the weakest link. It's quite obvious that Iaashadow was rushing to complete the game, as it was made to enter the scholastic art and writing awards. Walls were made from single-block textures. Did they fit the backgrounds? Yes- however, they lacked the depth and detail that has become the standard of modern GSM games. If it's a thick wall, make it thicker, and perhaps create some variation within the wall. (For instance, mixing in some rough "Bush" texture with the flowers to create an uneven landscape) Also, remember to ALWAYS set top-down custom backgrounds to "LOCKED". Level 6 was completely barren- no visual appeal whatsoever.

STORY
The exposition dump at level 6 was absolutely painful. Other than that, the story was well put together. (Although a little quick-paced.) However, the one gripe I have with the dialogue is major- the grammar. It needs some serious improvement. Unfinished sentences, rushed exchanges and virtually a complete lack of punctuation. I honestly think you should re-write the whole thing.

GAMEPLAY
Now this is where Bioform truly shines. The gameplay is fast-paced, unique, smart, and above all- FUN! I actually played it TWICE! (This is a major thing- I NEVER PLAY GAMES TWICE.) It's fun! Fresh! Little more has to be said!

CONCLUSION
I must say- pushing through all the obvious flaws, I sure had a blast playing Bioform. What are my final thoughts? 

Iaashadow, I am issuing a CHALLENGE for you. Accept, and you shall be rewarded. (by yourself and I, mostly) Go back to your game, Bioform. Start editing it. Re-make the visuals, adding in as much detail as possible while sustaining identical gameplay. Re-write all the dialogue, making COMPLETE SENTENCES (ugh) and explaining things a bit better. Polish it up, relax as you no longer have a time limit, and release Bioform: Final Mix. I look forward to your reply.
