James

James watched Assassin attack Hera when 3 sharp pains erupted from his body, and James weakly fell, his brain not comprehending what had just happened. He looked at Jack, words on the tip of his mouth. A tear rolled down his face as James spoke the last words in this world.

"All... I ever wanted.... was to do good.. but I guess... that I failed my mission.. Ruler broke me, Jack.... he broke me.... this war, it's-it's useless, a waste of lives... I had to the and end it. I had to try....."

James took a deep shuddering breath, his end near.

"Jack... I'm s-sorry about C-Celtchar... I hope... you live on-n and... destroy the K-K-Ke-Key..."

James Blackbourne released his final breath, his eyes lost light and closed, never to open again.

Assassin had just smashed into Hera's shield, and when a he couldn't smash into her he smashed the shield, hitting its weakest point, destroying it. Assassin elbowed Hera in the chest and then dragged his knuckles into her leg, brutually, but not fatally slicing it open. About to deal the killing stroke, Assassin felt his connection with James suddenly go dark, and he turned in fear to look at his master and friend, seeing him lying on the ground, Jack near him, dead. Assassin fell back, shocked, as her drew his gun and aimed it at Jack's head, prepared and determined to pull the trigger.

Jack

He glanced behind him at the sound of the shield smashing, seeing the gun being pulled up. No that's not gonna happen. He threw a smoke bomb at his feet and dropped to the ground. Hopefully the clubs get him before he runs over here or I'll be seeing the other side today too

He began to crawl behind James's body then dove down the hill, front rolling as best he could. Oh this is gonna hurt in a few minutes. He reached the bottom then began sprinting into the thicket.

Henri

Henri's eyes were burning with rage as he stared at James's dying body.  He wanted to scream, to throw lightning at something until nothing was left but dust.  What's the point?  Tragedy after tragedy after tragedy.  He walked over to James.

"That's no excuse.  The actions you took were your own decision.  I don't think Ruler can make someone do something if those feelings aren't there to begin with."

Meanwhile, Archer had turned to Assassin.  His exposed skin, previously a light brown, was slowly changing in hue to solid gold as his arrow continued on its course.  Assassin faced him, but Archer felt no fear.  His life and death were already bound to the course.

Another arrow fired into the ground, and almost the entire battlefield was turned into a sandy desert.  Archer held out his hand, and the sand began to swirl around Assassin, combining with the smoke to cloud his vision.  Archer stretched out his bow to an incredible length, loading in an arrow, and fired.  It speared through the smoke, unwavering, through Assassin.  Arrow after arrow after arrow, gold streaks flying through the air.

His face dark, he pointed his bow toward Zamiel and fired.  The arrow passed through Zamiel's flesh, and the hole it created closed over with black slime.  Zamiel laughed in a low, discordant voice, and the bullet embedded in his body exited him, swirling around him before re-entering.

Archer ran forward, light trailing behind him, and grabbed Zamiel, intending to teleport him somewhere else for a more powerful attack.  But something was off.  Zamiel's life force moved with Archer willingly, and he felt no resistance as they teleported to another offshore island in the course of his ultimate Noble Phantasm.  When he arrived, Zamiel was laughing.

"I can't be killed in this state.  I'll die soon, of course, once my arrow hits the ground... but not before then.  You aren't invincible."

Zamiel's bullet flew out of one of his eyes, forming a trail of red and black energy.  It rammed into Archer repeatedly from multiple directions, but his now-golden flesh was impermeable.  Arash prepared another arrow, but before he could, the bullet flew off in the sky.  Directly toward Arash's arrow.

Arash's face hardened, and he pummeled Zamiel with arrows, before teleporting back to Avenger.  Lack of mana and the damage from the arrows would kill Zamiel before he could find a way to return.  But Arash now had minutes rather than hours left to live.

Avenger

In the storm of sand, Assassin saw a silhouette that vanished immediately, only to appear somewhere else, closer. Chest torn open from the arrows, he found himself completely unable to move. Finally he saw the face of a white-haired girl peer over his vision, as she smiled maliciously and suspended a black and gold sword above his forehead. For a brief second he could read the word "Durendal" written on the length of the blade before it was firmly stabbed through his skull. Everything went black for him.

Finally, the sandy plains faded, and the snowstorm returned. Death was in the wind itself.
In that moment, there was only silence.

Maria

She mentally whistled, what had started out to be a potential slugfest between seven servants now had four of those figures incur casualties. The demon archer was burning itself out while the golden paragon archer looked as if his steroided state would be soon to follow. That just left the samurai, the information gleaming caster, a lancer on standby, and a missing Berserker.

Avenger had flickered out of existence, cutting through another servant as if they were human. She frowned.

Although Excalibur should lead me to believe that this is a Pendragon, something about that air of her's doesn't fit with that last name. So this means that it's most likely Sigurðr, Völundr, or Nimue. I can't think of anyone else it could be.  Hmmm, this'll be an issue. If it's Nimue, that means I have to contend with the healing properties and magic of the isle of Avalon. Sigurðr means I'd also have to worry about the existence of Gram and if it's Völundr, well, I kind of want to just go home thinking about it. I mean, what's the worst that can happen? Avenger destroying the world? That'll probably be the end result I suppose.

Well, dealing with Zamiel will be up to either this body or them down there. I can't spare any time of Lancer's last stand on a wraith or shade.

King, start moving. Soon, let us begin the final fight.

The shell with wings fluttered about, warming up with a salvo of magical pellets, bombarding the spirit with few prodding test rounds.

Cody Lazarus

He was still sweating from what he saw happen to Riza. His childhood friend. Above all, though, he felt impatient. Once he knew the affair with Archer was over, he raised his gun and pointed it at Avenger's head. She looked back with a somewhat blank expression. "You're in no position to fight as of now. I suggest you rest and tend to your wounded." He lowered his gun, because he knew she was right. Suddenly, the girl was struck with a few rounds of mana fire. She snapped back with a vicious look but didn't act.

"...Caster, can you make a lab for us?"

"I suppose I've got plenty of mana, and we've got some time to regain our mana. I'd like to have a few words with that Avenger-Class, though."

"I understand. Can you hide the lab from view of non-mages?"

"Suit yourself..." He mustered approximately half of his mana stores and constructed another laboratory. This was considerably smaller and more focused on practicality. Avenger, unimpressed, walked through the front door.
In that moment, there was only silence.

Hera

Hera grimaced in pain. She took one glance at her leg. And of course I have used up a majority of my mana...

The pained girl carefully sat in the snow. This f***ing sucks. And we have to fight Avenger after this too! A pained groan emerged from her throat. After this war is finished I'm gonna do away with all this magecraft s*** and lock myself in my room claiming I have PTSD. Why is it that every single f***ing friend I make in this war dies, AND ALL I GET IS A WOUNDED LEG?

Hera glanced at her surroundings. Finally her eyes rested on Kirin. ...God damn it. Someone's gotta help this guy. He may end up actually having PTSD.

Hera awkwardly stood up and hobbled towards Kirin. After ungracefully sitting in the snow next to him, she let out a sigh. I already regret this decision.

"Kirin, I'm sorry."

Kirin

He was shivering. He stared dead ahead into the forest, unaffected as Hera sat beside him. The billowing wind coated his hair and shoulders with a thin veil of snow, but he didn't seem to care.

"She's... she's really gone." The tears on his face were beginning to freeze over. Unable to face Hera, he buried his face into his knees.
In that moment, there was only silence.

Henri

Arash appeared in front of Henri, and Henri kneeled.

"Archer... Arash... thank you.  This war's made me reconsider a lot of things.  So many figures from the past summoned, and while we call them Heroic Spirits, they all seem to be broken somehow.  Not true heroes, not the people they were idolized to be.  Arash... I know we've had disagreements, but I know that you always had my back, but more importantly, the back of everyone.  You've been a great ally, and a friend."

Archer smiled, and Zamiel's bullet struck the arrow.  He visibly jolted, and he crumpled to the ground just as the arrow fell into the ocean.  The sandy circles faded, replaced by wilted grass.

"Thank you," Henri breathed.

Hera

Hera's heart broke looking at Kirin's broken state. She placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Riza was the nicest girl I've met," Hera began. "She was as nice to her enemies as she was to her friends. I just wish I could've gotten to know her better. However, war is cruel, and death is even more so."

Hera looked over at where Riza's body lay, "She deserved better than death on a battlefield."

He made his way over the hill, "I'm back!" He said sarcastically, waving to the group, "What happened to assassin?"

Caster put his hands on his hips, trying to improve his mood. "He's suffered a superficial cut on his forehead, but he's expected to recover." He sarcastically pointed to Assassin's already fading corpse, which had its skull split open wide.

"Fantastic!" He put a few extra bullets into his gun and lit a cigar, "It's always time to smoke." he muttered to himself.

Silence

Kirin

"She deserved better than me." He didn't break his blank stare. "I just dragged her into the war without much of a second thought, and she payed the price. She paid for my mistake. Riza had a future ahead of her. She was nothing like me. She was full of life, and she always had something to say. I pretended not to enjoy her company, because..." He clutched his leg with his right hand. "...I don't even know why. What do I have ahead of me? A life of running from the association and hiding from the british secret service? I'm a wanted man, you know. I've sinned, I'm worth less. I should've been the one who was shot."
In that moment, there was only silence.
